Mission Statement

The Achievement and Assessment Institute (AAI) exists to enhance the achievement of a variety of individuals and organizations throughout local, state and national communities. It includes seven centers, each representing a diversity of services and programs.

AAI has a four-part mission:

  • Partner with local, state, national and global communities to apply scholarship to implement programs with direct public impact and to serve the greater good.
  • Develop and publish generalizable knowledge that allows leveraging of the solutions developed so that the success of the first part of our mission is magnified.
  • Provide faculty with the support and encouragement they need to generate resources for research and development in support of enhanced achievement of individuals and organizations.
  • Provide students with experiences vital to their professional development.

Statement on addressing structural and systemic
societal inequities

At the heart of our mission, the University of Kansas Achievement and Assessment Institute is dedicated to improving the lives of people in the many communities we serve. To this end we commit to addressing the structural and systemic inequities that prevent marginalized populations from thriving. We strive to create a safe workplace where there is zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment. We stand with Black Lives Matter, Indigenous Peoples, the LGBTQIA+ community, and all individuals who are marginalized or oppressed. We join the movement to make KU and the world around us a better place.
