Bart Swartz named growth officer for KU Achievement & Assessment Institute
LAWRENCE — The Achievement & Assessment Institute (AAI) at the University of Kansas has named Bart Swartz its first growth officer, a new executive role created to strengthen AAI’s position as a national leader in research-based solutions for education and community well-being.

The growth officer role is a key investment in AAI’s future. As the institute continues to expand its work in learning and assessment systems, community engagement, workforce development and applied research, Swartz will guide strategies that broaden AAI’s reach, elevate its partnerships and accelerate sustainable revenue growth.
“AAI is entering an exciting period of growth, and Bart brings exactly the kind of vision, energy and collaborative mindset we need,” said Neal Kingston, AAI director. “He understands both the complexity of our institute and the possibilities ahead.”
Swartz will lead the implementation of growth priorities in the One AAI Strategic Plan, ensuring the institute is positioned to respond to emerging needs and opportunities across Kansas and beyond.
“Bart was a clear choice for this new role, because he leads with both insight and authenticity,” said Jackie Counts, AAI operating officer. “He has a natural ability to connect with people, understand their challenges and turn conversations into helpful solutions.”
Swartz has spent more than 25 years in educational leadership and organizational development. Within AAI, he has directed efforts that support school leaders, build statewide networks, and introduce new tools and services that help educators and communities thrive. His background includes securing major grant funding, leading cross-center initiatives and developing programs that expand access to high-quality professional learning.
“I’m excited to step into this role and build on AAI’s incredible foundation,” Swartz said. “I believe deeply in our mission to support schools, organizations and communities, and I look forward to working alongside our centers and partners to expand our impact and create new opportunities for people and communities to thrive.”
Swartz began his career as a teacher and coach in Kansas schools, later serving in building and district leadership roles in the Kansas City area and at a Kansas educational service center.
